Are You a Specialist or do you Wear Many Hats?

I don’t like tunnel vision. Many times multiple disciplines allowed me to draw in from those experiences and approach problems from different angles.

“A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.”

I used to watch Star Trek – I think it was the one w/ Captain Picard – when I was young and was always amazed of the breath of knowledge the captain of the ship possessed.  I remember thinking that I knew of no other man (or woman) who knew so much about so many different topics.
