Subtitle: There’s no eraser when you are live.

Yesterday, I was on Fox News Live along with Being Latino founder, Lance Rios.

Being a prolific writer, I can’t help but to carry over my editing discipline and think about how I could have done or said something differently while live.

Overall, I think it went really well, but here’s what I would of said a little differently:

When I said “Latinos are becoming more engaged in society,” I think further clarification may have been needed like “Social media allows Latinos to more readily take part in their communities and participate in vital issues of our nation by lowering access barriers”

When asked about specific conversations, I wish more example of Latino/a communities came to mind

I have to learn how to smile a little more

When asked why so many Latinos in social media, I missed pointing out that Latinos in the U.S. are getting younger and how this is playing a big role

Like I said, when it’s live it’s pretty much a done deal.

This was my first time live on TV like this and I do have plans to take up public speaking courses/tutoring to improve live formats. God bless some of those naturals (but even they improve their inherent abilities).

UPDATE 01/12/2011 22:10: The response from the online community has been phenomenal in regards to the article and even more so by the live video segment.

Never has my Facebook been so active with comments and emails. Support from public and private groups have been pouring in all day yesterday and today.

I’ve received emails from individuals who want to know more about Latino social media.

Fox News Latino may well prove to be a very important catalyst to advancing Latino social media into the mainstream.

Thanks for all the support. There’s more to come!

I did a Q&A for FH Hispania Plaza, which was published yesterday.

MF: How much Latino presence do you think there is currently on the blogosphere?

(…)With all the hype about Twitter and Facebook in the news these days I see little attention given to blogs as opposed to a few short years ago when blogs were all the rage. Don’t feel sad for blogging though, because blogs hold their own. Blogs are ubiquitous, and can be found linked to from all social media portals. They are the tenacious opinion-platforms of individuals who seek to elaborate and communicate their point of view freely and unrestricted. If that’s not social media, I don’t know what is.

Thanks Maribel.
